Marco de Koster

Marco de Koster comes from a multi-cultural and musical background with strong links to South East Asia, Amsterdam and the Australian music scene He was born in the Netherlands where his parents had settled after living in Sumatra for many years, and when he was five his family moved to New Zealand for seven years, before finally settling in Melbourne, Australia.

His formative teenage years were spent in Melbourne’s beautiful Yarra Valley region, where music was very much part of his family’s day to day life. Marco learnt his first guitar cords from his older sister, who was then a violinist in a well-known Melbourne band, and at 15 made his debut appearance as a singer and guitarist which lead to numerous appearances in Melbourne’s thriving folk and blues clubs.

By 19 he was ready to go exploring the world and this wanderlust lead him back to the city of his birth, Amsterdam, where he made his living singing and playing guitar in the city’s famous nightclub district.

Family eventually drew him back to Australia where he worked for Vogue as a photographer and model, plus edited material about the Australian music scene.

In 1986 he poured his considerable talents into establishing his own jewellery business - de Koster Fashion – and now designs and develops a number of distinctive jewellery lines and has a lengthy and continually expanding client base in both Australia and Europe. More recently, in co-operation with European company A-Punkt, he has developed a range of eye catching and distinctive watches under the label de Koster Watches, and currently lives with his wife and two young children in Noosa, Queensland.

Well known and respected Australian musician Joe Camilleri produced and appeared in Marco’s first album in the late 1990’s, and Marco is now working on a second R&B album which he expects to be released in the near future.
